SERVICES offered by us :


We basically offer three services:

1) Translation services from English to Bahasa Melayu and vice versa

2) Proofreading or sometimes referred to as “COPY EDITING”. Proofreading/Copy Editing is editing the language of the text. For examples: correcting errors in spelling, fixing punctuation mistakes, correcting grammatical errors, whether you've used the words “stationary” and “stationery” in their proper places etc.

3) Editing or sometimes referred to as “CONTENT EDITING”. The purpose of Content Editing is to ensure clarity and consistency of the entire work. The work (i.e. the text/written words) will be evaluated as a whole and problems of structure, organization, coherence, and logical consistency will be addressed. Words and sentences may be removed/changed or added to improve it. It includes Proofreading/Copy Editing.

We emphasis “Basically” since apart from these services, we also offer other non-core services such as content writing, designing etc. In short, if it involves ink and papers, there is a high chance that we can help you. Do drop us an email if you have anything to ask.

Sometimes words just elude you when you need them most. There are times when you are struggling to express yourselves in writing. Under the individual proofreading and editing service, we proofread and edit personal documents such as cover letters, resumes and others.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE that as a matter of principle, we cannot accept political materials or materials deemed by us to be libellous to any person.

RATES FOR SERVICE

SCHOLARS.ASSIST's proofreading and editing rates are based on word count of the source material as counted by the word counting function of Microsoft Words (the one you see at the bottom left of your screen when you use MS Words) and the required turnaround time.

We do not charge by the page and base our rates according to the number of words in the text for the simple reason that the number of words in an A4 page can be manipulated through re-spacing, resizing of font etc. Basing our charge according to the number of words is fairer to both parties in our humble opinion.

i) Translation (English-Bahasa/Bahasa-English) (Rates are based on a 5000 [Five Thousand] words work)

A. If the deadline is more than 14 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.15 sen per word of source material.

B. If the deadline is less than 14 days but more than 7 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.18 sen per word of source material.

C. If the deadline is less than 7 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.23 sen per word of source material and some deposit.

*Translation fee includes proofreading and editing fees of the document in target language.

ii) Proofreading (Copy Editing) and Editing

A. If the deadline is more than 14 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.12 sen per word of source material.

B. If the deadline is less than 14 days but more than 7 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.15 sen per word of source material.

C. If the deadline is less than 7 days from the date of your instruction to us :

RM0.20 sen per word of source material and some deposit.

The above is also based on a 5000 words source materials. For works of more than 5000 words, the rate may or may not stay the same depending on deadline and workloads of our proofreaders and editors.

We do not charge separately for proofreading and editing. We do both. we believe that they go hand in hand though some proofreading and editing services providers charge them separately i.e. give you the option of engaging them only for proofreading or editing. Ever seen a moving car with one wheel out of balance? If your textual work is a car, that is what it is going look like if you ask someone to only proofread or only edit them – out of balance.

In a nutshell, proofreading and editing involve correcting grammatical and spelling errors, replacing inappropriate words and phrases with suitable ones, restructuring sentences or ideas into a more fluent and readable format. Basically the clients’ documents is corrected, restructured and rearranged where necessary. The purpose is to help the reader understand and focus on the relevant information as intended by the writer. Many times good judgement is needed to assess when to make changes without altering the original meaning and ideas of the writers and this is why we believe that one cannot proofread/copy edit (the correcting part) without editing (i.e. content editing - the restructuring/re-arranging part) the document as well.

Please take note that the minimum fee is RM50 (for reasons related to efficacy of our resources, we do not accept job that costs less than RM50).

PAYMENT PROCEDURE

Generally, we do not need your deposit to start the work unless for the urgent ones, as have been told above. However, we do require gradual payment for every 2000 words done.

Each time we finish translating or editing and proofreading 2000 words of the source material, we will send you a partially blackened out translated/edited and proofread copy as proof of work done. Don’t worry, you can still gauge the quality and completeness of the work though it is partially blackened out. After you have banked in the part payment, we will release the un-blackened out copy and will resume work for the next 2000 words.
