Hi, Assalamualaikum..
I have one question,basically we running a restaurant and we would like to register as a franchisor.We just start our first outlet last July and we are now progressingly to open new outlet at Penang. My question, did we qualified to register (RoF) under MECD.If yes, how the procedure?I have try to call MECD incharge but nobody there.Can u plaese help me.

Dear Encik Megat, First and foremost we would like to thank you for registering your interest in franchise business. For your information, in Malaysia, we have Franchise Act 1998, which clearly stated that a franchisor shall register his franchise with the registrar (RoF) before he can make an offer to sell franchise to any person. Fails to comply commits an offence. The procedure of registration you can get it from MeCD website www.mecd.gov.my or call 03-8880 5600. Normally they need your business to be run in Malaysia minimum 3 years and you must have at least 1 prototype outlet.
In MFA we do organize a series of training programs such as Basic Franchising Course and Essential Franchise Training Program for Would Be Franchisor (KPF). By attending these 2 courses, I believe it will assist you to understand the franchise concept better as well as have some ideas on franchise industry in Malaysia. You can meet up with the industry experts during the training. We at MFA are glad to guide you.
