Objectives

Students are expected to obtain knowledge of fiber optic concepts that will allow them to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to:

Configure, install, and maintain fiber optic systems specific to outside plant applications.
Become familiar with hands-on skills including:
Develop skill in fiber optics fusion splicing
Measuring fiber optics loss in accordance to fiber optics budget loss
Able to identify components required in building up fiber optics network
Able to come out with basic cost of fiber optics cabling works
Develop skill in designing outdoor electrical system into fiber optics applications
Able to troubleshoot and identify fiber optics downed network
Able to outsource high quality fiber optics components at low cost
Able to repair problematic fiber optics cabling without calling fiber optics contractors.
Benefits

This course gives students a practical understanding of fiber optic technology and the skills needed to install, test, and maintain fiber optic cabling systems. They will also practice using outside plant techniques for building to building and long-haul installations. Students will learn connectorization, splicing, and testing in two full days of hands-on labs and live demonstrations.
