Saya baru tahu yg Terence Victor Smith (TV Smith), salah seorang blogger otai malaysia dah meninggal dunia tahun lepas (Sep 2018). Umur beliau awal 60an.

Sesiapa yg suka pengembaraan, cepat baca sebelum terlambat.

Ikuti kisah Pengembaraan Federal Route 1 beliau disini:

Beliau juga adalah pelopor Portal Direktori Bisnes Malaysia yg agak popular terutamanya zaman sebelum 2010.

Direktori yg beliau usahakan:

Kisah kematian beliau (sakit mengejut) disiarkan oleh The Star:

11 Sep 2018 - Pioneering blogger TV Smith dies

========

Perkara yg paling penting sekali bila melalui jalan lama ni bagi saya adalah melihat bisnes2 yg ada di sepanjang jalan, terutama bisnes yg melibatkan makanan. Banyak yg dapat kita belajar dari situ.

Saya terharu dgn kehilangan beliau. Gaya penulisan beliau penuh dengan nasihat dan wisdom dari seorang otai. Kita generasi muda dapat belajar banyak dari pengalaman dan liku liku kehidupan yg beliau curahkan.

Semoga beliau aman disana.
Rest in Peace (RIP)

Kisah Federal Route 1 Beliau

9 Julai 2015
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/going-home-raya

I started on this journey on Federal Route 1 on 29 March 2015. I have since covered
- Rawang,
- Serendah,
- Ulu Yam,
- Rasa,
- Kuala Kubu,
- Kerling,
- Kalumpang,
- Hulu Bernam,
- Tanjung Malim,
- Behrang,
- Slim River
and many tiny places in between.

To tell the story, I visited quaint little towns, rustic villages and wandered through dusty roads and jungle trails. Camped in tents, stayed at dodgy 'rumah tumpangan' (lodging houses) but also at comfy hotels, chalets and motels. Met friendly and warm people from all walks of life.

In between, I have also traveled back to my home base in KL several times to replenish and to attend to paying work. Where possible, I try to continue again the next day. Quite tiring but it kept the sense of adventure and exploration fresh in my mind.

28 Jun 2015 - Ulu Slim hot springs
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/ulu-slim-hot-springs

The hot springs at Ulu Slim is nice in that it wasn't turned into an ugly cemented pond or worst, proclaimed as a spa, as with many other exploitable hot springs in the country. I like that it remains a (free) natural pond within an idyllic country setting.

Surrounded by rolling hills and rainforests, this is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Malaysia. Slim River, the river, is about 50 meters behind me.

Go to Slim Village, where there is a strange town square. And don't forget to visit the nearby hot springs and waterfalls

25 Jun 2015 - Kilang Roti Mokhtar - Slim River
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/mokhtar-le-baker

It is unfortunate that this more than half-a-century old bakery is known as a factory (or kilang). In reality, it is a one-man baker outfit and an artisan one at that. Every loaf, bun and pastry is lovingly hand-crafted by Mokhtar himself. No workers, interns or apprentices behind the scenes.

1 jun 2015 - Behrang The Unlikely Fishing Town
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/behrang-unlikely-fishing-town

Behrang, as I was to find out, is an angler's paradise. Assorted fishing hobbyists, from near and far, congregate here before fishing at the nearby confluence of tributaries.

The principal river. Sungai Bernam. flows from Mount Liang Timur on the Titiwangsa Main Range to the Straits of Malacca . Upstream, at the mountain peak, is also the point where the borders of the three states of Pahang, Perak and Selangor meet.

A local 'bait and tackle' shop worker told me the prized catch here are Pak So Kung (Ikan Baung or Mystus catfish), Ikan Kelah (Mahseer) and Temoleh (Jullien's Carp).

The catch must be so good to make people buy a RM 800 boat on location. It is nice to see a leisure activity drawing business to eateries and other shops in this forgotten town.

Pupular Fishball Satey at Tanjung Malim Pasar Malam
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/crowd

Confirmed moments later with her family members that it was fish indeed. Nice to see a Malay (or maybe Indonesian) hawker attracting so many Chinese customers. All waited patiently as he grilled what looked like mini fishball satay sticks.

Kerling Hot Springs - Area Kuala Kubu Bharu
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/kerling-hot-springs

Since it is a weekday, the place is almost deserted. I was told on crowded weekends, it is also visited by locals mostly. Nice that the locals have their own secret and very remote hideout for recreation and picnics. Maybe not (so secret) anymore.

I went to look for the hot springs on another side. It is channeled into a pool

Route 66: The Other Road To Genting Highlands.
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/route-66-other-road-genting-highlands

If you see Genting Highlands clearly while driving on Federal Route 1, you know you are near Malaysia's own Route 66. Few people realise how close the mountain resort is until they see it from this location. This moonlight-like shot was photographed with a 600mm lens and polarizer from the roadside of Route 1.

First World Hotel, the colourful complex on the left most, once held the record as the largest hotel in the world with a total of 6,118 rooms. It was dethroned by two other slightly larger casino hotels: The Venetian Las Vegas + The Palazzo and the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

Klang Valley people are used to accessing Genting via the Karak Highway and Genting Sempah. A proper road (Route B66) was opened in the 1980s to connect Genting via Batang Kali and Ulu Yam. The road is linked to Gohtong Jaya on the eastern end. The Ulu Yam exit also provides an alternative route to Batu Caves and Kuala Lumpur.

29 mac 2015 - The Journey Begins
http://www.tvsmith.my/travel/journey-begins

This is the start of a new photo essay on the first interstate main road of Malaysia; the Federal Route 1. It spans over 800 kilometers, beginning at the border with Singapore, and ending at the border with Thailand. Constructed in stages from around 1909, it was the backbone of Peninsular of Malaysia until it was supplanted by the newer North-South Expressway in the 1980s and 1990s.

I hope to visit some of the landmarks and towns along the old route and record the many long lasting effects on the landscape. While the impact may not be as severe as the decay of the famous and longer Route 66 of America, little is documented of the decline of the many once-bustling towns on our historic Federal Route 1.

The journey north from KL to Ipoh used to begin at Bulatan Kuching. Travelers were soon greeted by a hilly and winding road into Templer's Park. The Kanching Falls, along with pristine forests and streams were once popular attractions for KL residents. From Route 1, motorists can still see this landmark limestone and granite monolith that is part of Bukit Takun. It is now surrounded by gated housing and a golf course, though.

Siri TV dokumen ini adalah Usahasama Jepun/China tahun 80an - 90an. Kitaro (pemuzik jepun) yg popular tu adalah pencipta muzik utk siri dokumentari ini.
